Mike Kimmons – Judging Bio

Mike Kimmons is currently Chairman of the Victory Services Club (VSC). With over 60,000 members the VSC is an all ranks military club with 202 bedrooms and sizeable, newly refurbished events spaces close by Marble Arch.  Until recently Mike was the Chief Executive Officer of the British Orthopaedic Association (the national body for orthopaedic surgeons).  One of his principal responsibilities as CEO was to lead the planning and operation of an annual Congress of 1700-2000 delegates with a CPD programme tailored to medical revalidation. Running over four days with six parallel streams of professional coverage, the Congress also has a sizeable industry exhibition. During Mike’s time the BOA Congress grew significantly: selecting the right venue was core to this success, while recognising that as a national body the BOA was obliged to be representative by moving the meeting around the British Isles. Mike developed a passionate interest in what makes an association congress tick, in particular the strong partnership, founded on mutual respect, between client, venue and destination city that creates success out of complexity. From his perspective it is the unique combination of value, location, high quality programme, accessibility, ambience, well targeted marketing and the ‘extra mile’ factor (which only good people and teams can generate) that is pivotal to a memorable event.
